I recently participated in the Tour de Melon in Chiefland, Florida. With over 300 riders participating in the event and plenty of watermelon to be had, the event has become a staple on the events calendar for avid and weekend warrior cyclist alike, providing rides from 20 miles to those who wanted a bigger challenge with a century ride through country roads, and various distances in-between.
Sponsored by the Suwannee Valley Rotary Club, the funds raised for this ride will be used to provide backpacks full of supplies for children in need. They also sponsor a meal program for children that otherwise might not get a healthy meal at home, worthy causes indeed.
I was thrilled to ride with the team from Gator Amps, Andrea, Dena, Steff, Mitch, and myself all rode the 20-mile trail ride on an absolutely beautiful morning. Andrea, who ironically was my Occupational Therapist when I was a patient at Shands Rehabilitation Hospital and one of the founding members of Gator Amps, was the only “four limbed freak” in the group, her words, not mine.
